About us
Who are we?
We are James and Whitney Hetzel. We co-founded The Catholic Company with our friends Bob and Jackie Gallagher with a simple goal: to serve Catholic families like our own. We are based in Charlotte, North Carolina, where we raised nine children in a faith-filled family nurtured by the joy and laughter of a large extended family.
As a proud military family—three of our sons have served their country—we understand the importance of dedication, sacrifice, and building something lasting. This business is our way of doing that: providing families with the tools to deepen their relationship with Christ and live their Catholic faith every day.
Our story
The Catholic company was founded shortly after the events of September 11, 2001, at a time when the world seemed incredibly fragile. In a way, our mission is our response to the pain, tragedy, isolation, and emptiness of the world. Then, and to this day, we believe that the answer to all of the world's problems lies in a deeper relationship with God and especially with His Catholic Church.
Nearly a quarter of a century later, we continue to uphold this belief at the heart of our business, using it as a guide for every decision, from the hiring process to the crafting of email content. It is this belief that has helped our business navigate the inevitable difficult times.
